Skill Building Opportunities

At Tandem, every young person’s journey is unique. Our skill-building opportunities are designed to meet youth where they are—helping them practice accountability, communication, and empathy in real-life settings. Each skill building experience creates space for reflection, growth, and reconnection, allowing young people to strengthen the skills that support lasting change and belonging in their communities.

Because each young person’s path and circumstances are unique, Tandem tailors skill-building opportunities to align with their individual experiences, readiness, and goals—ensuring that every skill building opportunity supports meaningful growth, accountability, and lasting change.

Mentorship

One-to-one relational support: each young person is paired with a caring adult who walks beside them consistently — listening, encouraging, challenging, and helping them move toward growth, purpose, and connection.

Prime For Life

A program designed to help young people build decision‐making skills, awareness of consequences, and self-leadership — helping them navigate life’s turning points with greater clarity and care.

Support Groups

Safe, facilitated spaces where young people connect with peers and leaders, share what life is really like, gain emotional support, and learn skills like communication, self-regulation, and accountability.

Traffic Violation Panels

A restorative alternative when a young person has a traffic violation: instead of a purely punitive outcome, they engage in a discussion about their choices, impact on others, and how to take responsibility moving forward.

Victim/Offender Dialogue

A courageous opportunity: when young people who have caused harm meet those they’ve harmed (or their representatives), to listen, learn, acknowledge impact, and begin repairing relationships when possible.

Accountability Meetings

Structured check-ins where young people reflect on their goals, actions, setbacks, and progress — with a mentor or facilitator — empowering them to take ownership of their journey rather than be defined by the past.

Restorative Panels

These panels bring together young people who’ve caused harm and their community — or those impacted by the harm — to share stories, face the consequences, and begin rebuilding trust and understanding.

Treehouse Tuesdays

A weekly gathering designed to build belonging, community, and connection: young people come together with mentors for food, honest conversations, peer connection, and a chance to just ‘be’ while also growing.

Refer A Young Person

Know a young person who could use support? Refer them today and we’ll walk alongside them with care, accountability, and hope.
